The words “First Light” mean more than just being first, they’re part of the company in many ways. A few years ago, Adam Lifland, our co-founder, had been called to assist in selling an old captain’s sportfish boat.

After enquiring why the man wanted to sell, he said that last year when out on an overnight trip, he had lost one of his crew. He could no longer do his job, nor did he want to continue within an industry where he had been part of someone losing a life.

It was after some thought that Adam saw the opportunity to develop a Man-overboard system that could tell the captain or family members they had just lost someone over the side.

The name of that captain’s boat was First Light, and since then we’ve been committed to developing that very alarm
– the mermaid id.
